GRIEFWAVE launched on Feb. 21, 2022, on the ten year deathiversary of Chris Reimer.

GRIEFWAVE is an elegiac response to the life and death of my brother, Chris Reimer (1986-2012), a Calgary-based indie musician. It is also a meditation on the oscillating nature of loss and grief, and the ways in which mourning changes when it takes place in public, digital spheres.

Portions of this digital elegy-in-progress have appeared on a self-hosted website and were modified to appear on a digital billboard over Macleod Trail in Calgary as part of Wordfest, 2013.

In our grief work, we came to understand that our brothers remain present in our lives. We consider the moments in which they continue to walk with us, and we note how their gentle suggestions for how to live continue to be spoken.

Shrine to extended possibilities maps the material objects that represent a spiritual presence/present and considers that a brother-sister bond might remain unbroken beyond death. It invites viewers to consider how their own loved ones’ messages might continue to resonate.

2018 Equinox Vigil

This piece was commissioned by Alana Bartol and Sarah Nordean for their 2017 Hidden in Quarry Park public art project.

While living in East Vancouver (“East Van”) in the years 2004 - 2012, I encountered hundreds of them. Wild, homed, semi-feral, entirely the Cats Who Walked By Themselves.
